History: | "Probably a Tlingit Indian name, first reported by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 7), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). There has been considerable confusion of the stream names in this area. Tebenkov shows the name ""Tanis"" on what seems to be the headstream of the Ustay, which he calls the ""Akve."" See Ustay River and Kakanhini River." |
